Reading is the cornerstone of learning at Chase View Community Primary School. Our reading and phonics programme equips pupils with the skills and confidence to read fluently, understand texts deeply, and develop a lifelong love of literature.
We use a systematic synthetic phonics approach in the early years, ensuring that pupils build a strong foundation in decoding and word recognition. This structured method helps every child succeed, regardless of their starting point.
As pupils progress, they are introduced to a wide variety of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. We encourage reading for pleasure, creating a culture where books are celebrated and enjoyed.
Our reading lessons focus on comprehension, critical thinking, and vocabulary development. Pupils learn to analyse texts, ask questions, and articulate their understanding with confidence.
Parents are key partners in fostering a love of reading. We provide resources and guidance to support reading at home, ensuring every child’s progress is celebrated and nurtured.
